Why Germanium transistors sound better in fuzz pedals:

• Germanium transistors produce a smoother, more organic distortion with a lower and softer clipping characteristic that creates a vintage, amp-like overdrive sound in fuzz pedals.

• Germanium transistors produce a less harsh, more rounded, and smoother distortion compared to the more abrasive sound of silicon.

• Germanium transistors are more sensitive to the guitar volume knob changes, which allows for a more dynamic and expressive playing experience “clean-up”.

• They have a lower gain and a more limited frequency response, which cuts down on high-frequency harshness and contributes to the sought-after vintage sound of many classic fuzz pedals.
