The story behind FreezeZone pedals.
Germanium transistors have long been a favorite used in fuzz pedals. But the sound, tone and sustain of pedals are effected by heat. The FreezeZone pedal lowers the temperature internally, specifically the transistors used in the pedal.
The Germanium transistor is effected by temperature change so much that just touching the transistor with your hands can change their values (gain and current leakage .) The transistors used in the FreezeZone pedals are tested for gain and current leakage at a set lower temperature. We did some tests with geranium transistors and found that by cooling down the transistor the current leakage came down to zero.
The FreezeZone pedal keeps the transistors at a lower temperature regardless of the ambient temperature. Keeping the transistor at a constant lower temperature makes for a more consistent and reliable pedal.
You may have seen Youtuber's put their fuzz pedals in the refrigerator or freezer producing better tonal qualities and with more sustain. Up to now, there has been no way to maintain a cool temperatures in a pedal.
FreezeZone pedal without temperature gauge. The FreezeZone pedal without temperature gauge has the same internal parts as the free zone pedal with temperature gauge. The temperature is preset internally to eight degrees Celsius.
